Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, “We didn’t have this green thing back in my earlier days.”

The clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”

She was right — our generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books. But too bad we didn’t do the green thing back then.

We walked up stairs, because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn’t have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts — wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn’t have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she’s right; we didn’t have the green thing back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we older folks were just because we didn’t have the green thing back then?

No matter how many times law abiding citizens use their lawfully owned and Constitutionally protected guns to defend themselves, anti-gun nuts pretend it doesn’t happen or that citizens and criminals just need to learn how to get along. The truth is that criminals are scum and will do anything they can to get an advantage on law abiding citizens like you including ganging up on you, lying in wait, or just overpowering you when you trust them to be who they say they are. Don’t believe it? Check out the true stories below.

Brandon Kruse was on his way to get some sushi when three teens surrounded him, and one of them punched Kruse in the head. ”One guy to my far right just punched me in the face and started swinging,” Kruse said. ”At that point, I just pulled my fun and the three guys scattered.” Kruse dialed 9-1-1 and kept the SIG Sauer .40-cal. pistol, which he is licensed to carry, ready. Strangely, the suspects lingered in a nearby parking lot and were arrested by responding officers for assault and drug possession. (New Haven Register, New Haven, Conn., 08/02/11)

After a recent burglary, an elderly man began storing his gun in a more accessible fashion. Not long thereafter he awoke at 3 a.m. and realized hi home was again being invaded. He grabbed his gun and confronted three suspects in the hallway, shooting one suspect several times. The wounded man fled with an accomplice, but a third suspect grabbed a knife and chose to fight. During the struggle, the homeowner’s gun discharged, wounding the suspect’s hand. The injured suspect decided to wait for police, but unfortunately the homeowner had no phone and was too weak to go for help. Thus began a lengthy stand-off. Unbelievably, the homeowner held the suspect for eight hours before he was able to muster enough strength to escort him next door and phone police. (Reno Gazette-Journal, Reno, Nev., 08/22/11)

Normally, Raven Smith leaves his gun in the vehicle before he goes into a restaurant, but something make him reconsider on evening. The concealed-carry permit holder kept his .380-cal. handgun holstered as he stepped out of the car to have dinner with his girlfriend. Before he’d taken three steps, a masked man rushed up behind his girlfriend with what appeared to be a gun. ”Get down, get down!” Smith yelled to his girlfriend as he fired four shots. The suspect dropped to the ground with four gunshot wounds and will be arrested after his release from the hospital. ”I’ve only had practice doing casual shooting, as a hobby,” said Smith, and airline mechanic. ”It’s completely different using it in a situation like this.” His girlfriend calls him her hero, adding, “I saw orange flashes over my head. And then my ears were ringing.” (St. Petersburg Times, St. Petersburg, Fla., 08/08/11)

Police believe a prowler was on drugs, had an illegal gun and had broken into several cars and storage sheds before 17-year-old Justin Rowland caught him burglarizing his parent’s property. Rowland, a good student and football player, spotted the suspect rummaging through the family’s shed. He quickly grabbed a pump-action shotgun and confronted the prowler, who threw his hands in the air and waited for police. ”It definitely made our job easier,” said police detective Philip Calhoun. ”It’s very easy to roll up on a scene and put somebody into custody when they’re already [being held] at gunpoint by the homeowner.” (FOX16-TV, Little Rock, Ark., 08/11/11)

Was the suspect lying in wait as his would-be victim came home from work? That’s what police are asking after Leontaye Johnson returned from his shift as a cook and was ambushed. What police do know is the suspect illegally carried a gun, announced a robbery and fired a shot at Johnson, injuring him. That’s when Johnson drew his gun, fired several shots and killed the suspect. (NBC11-TV, Atlanta, Ga., 08/15/11)

A young woman walked out the door on her way to work when she spotted a pit bull with a history of aggressive behavior on the loose. She quickly ducked back inside her father’s home and called police to report the wandering dog. After waiting for the dog to leave, the father got a firearm for safety and escorted his daughter to the vehicle. Within moments the dog appeared and again began acting aggressively. The homeowner tried to slowly back his way into the home but the dog backed him against an exterior wall. He fired a shot, killing the dog. (Everett Herald, Everett, Wash., 08/18/11)

Early one afternoon a man knocked on a woman’s door and claimed to be there to check on roof damage for an insurance company. As soon as he was inside, he punched the woman and knocked her to the ground. The woman broke free in the ensuing struggle, and the suspect followed her into a bedroom. She managed to fight off the suspect and claw her way to her pistol. As soon as she had the gun in her hands, the man fled the area. (Ashland Time-Gazette, Ashland, Ohio, 08/06/11)

1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

4. I voted Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun,and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers, thieves and radical Muslims.

5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius. (OMG … THAT IS PRICELESS!!!)

6. I voted Democrat because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education and Social Security benefits.

8. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

10. I voted Democrat because I think that it’s better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle or gopher.

11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised “HOPE AND CHANGE”.

12. I voted Democrat because I believe our borders should be open, particularly to Mexico. So that the illegals and drugs can get into our country with no hassle.

As you can see, the Bush unemployment numbers are far better than the Obama administration. The libs will still scream, “It’s Bush’s Fault,” but it’s worth noting that the highest unemployment numbers during Bush’s tenure occurred after the Democrats regained the majority in the House of Representatives and Senate during the 2006 mid-term elections and they’ve gone up ever since.

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote Texas pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust worthy of the Road Runner.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the BMW’s gold-tinted window and asked cowboy Bud, “If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?”

Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, “Sure, Why not?”

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to a secret NRO satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his iPad that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, “You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves.”

“That’s right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves,” says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then Bud says to the young man, “Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?”

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, “Okay, why not?”

“You’re an aide in the Obama Administration”, says Bud.

“Wow! That’s correct,” says the yuppie, “but how did you guess that?”

“No guessing required.” answered the cowboy. “You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don’t know a thing about how working people make a living – or about cows, for that matter. This is a herd of sheep…

Now give me back my dog!

Author unknown but appreciated.

The liberals, progressives, elitists, and marxists who support President Barack Hussein Obama usually take every opportunity to make personal attacks on anyone who is conservative or an anti-Obama critic. That’s especially true if a critic or conservative dares to provide indisputable facts about, or express any well founded criticism regarding, President Obama’s policies. The usual liberal response is to quickly say how stupid, uneducated, and uninformed the conservative/critic is. They clearly believe that they are the intellectual elite and everyone else is part of the mental midget society.

Recently a number of President Obama’s ardent supporters were caught on video expressing their opinions of a sign at the Restoring Sanity Rally in Washington, D.C. that simply asked “Obama = Keynesian?” Here at Happily American we are very well aware that the sign was asking about President Obama’s economic policies and philosophies, and whether they were influenced by British economist John Maynard Keynes but apparently the President’s supporters were not. It seems they were confused and thought the sign was commenting on the President’s place of birth (some say Kenya). Whether these highly intelligent democrats had difficulty seeing the sign, can’t be bothered to distinguish between Kenyan and Keynesian, or have some other intellectual impediment has not been determined….but the results are hilarious! Intellectual elite indeed!

To be fair, education in the United States isn’t very strong now days in the subjects of economics, geography, or even reading. So, who could blame these poor minions of the great and powerful Barack for not being able to distinguish between Kenyan and Keynesian?

It’s a simple question, “Why Would Minorities Vote Democrat?” I ask this question because elections are once again upon us and with elections come the accusations regarding which political party took actions against or for a particular group. As usual the Democrats are trying to paint Republicans as a bunch of racists while portraying themselves (falsely) as saviors coming to the rescue of minorities. The Democrats are not now, nor have they ever been, friends to minorities.

There are two things I always find strange about Democrats posing as Knights fighting on behalf of minorities. The first thing I find strange is that Republicans often don’t challenge the Democrats very well when it comes to their record defending minority rights. The second thing that’s strange is that minority voters often buy into the Democrat’s story despite historical fact. For instance, it’s historical fact that Democrats were Knights when it came to minorities all right…Knights of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). The KKK was founded by and operated by Democrats who did everything they could to terrorize minorities and suppress the political power of minorities. The video explains:

Since the days of the KKK nothing much has changed in the Democrat party. You might find that statement odd considering we now have a black President and members of the Democrat party reflect all ethnic groups and liberal ways of life, but if you look closely you’ll see that the policies they promulgate serve to keep minorities voting Democrat and dependent on government in general.

With the 2010 mid-term elections less than two weeks away it’s seems strange that people I talk to have forgotten that we have already had four long years of DemocRat majority in the Congress. Yeah, I know it seems longer than that for some of us but some voters they seem to forget that during the last two years of George W. Bush’s presidency the DemocRats were in charge of both houses of Congress.

The 2006 mid-term elections saw the Republicans lose their Congressional majority and the DemocRats gain the majority. So, in January 2007 the DemocRats took over the national budget and all Congressional committees. Yes dear reader, the DemocRats have been in charge of federal oversight for banking, housing and mortgages, and much more for about four years…are you better off?

If your having a hard time remembering what the DemocRats have been up to for the past four years here’s a video to jog your memory:

Remember now? On November 2nd remember who’s been in charge for the last four years and choose between more of the same crap or a new direction.

Muslim suicide bombers in Britain are set to begin a three-day strike on Monday in a dispute over the number of virgins they are entitled to in the afterlife. Emergency talks with Al Qaeda have so far failed to produce an agreement.

The unrest began last Tuesday when Al Qaeda announced that the number of virgins a suicide bomber would receive after his death would be cut by 25% this February from 72 to 60. A company spokesman said increases in recent years in the number of suicide bombings have resulted in a shortage of virgins in the afterlife.

The suicide bombers’ union, the British Organization of Occupational Martyrs (or B.O.O.M.) responded with a statement saying the move was unacceptable to its members and called for strike vote. General Secretary Abdullah Amir told the press, “Our members are literally working themselves to death in the cause of Jihad. We don’t ask for much in return, but to be treated like this is like a kick in the teeth”.

Speaking from his shed in Tipton in the West Midlands, Al Qaeda chief executive Osama bin Laden explained, “I sympathize with our workers’ concerns, but Al Qaeda is simply not in a position to meet their demands. They are simply not accepting the realities of modern-day Jihad in a competitive marketplace. Thanks to Western depravity, there is now a chronic shortage of virgins in the afterlife. It’s a straight choice between reducing expenditures or laying people off. I don’t like cutting benefits, but I’d hate to have to tell 3,000 of my staff that they won’t be able to blow themselves up.”

Spokespersons for the union in the North East of England, Ireland, Wales, and the entire Australian continent stated that the change would not hurt their membership as there are few virgins in their areas anyway.

According to some industry sources, the recent drop in the number of suicide bombings has been attributed to the emergence of Scottish singing star, Susan Boyle. Many Muslim jihadists now know what a virgin looks like and have reconsidered their benefit packages.

Author Unknown But Appreciated
