Ever been home alone at night and get that feeling that something was wrong? Hear a jiggle at the door, see the guard chihuahua’s ears perk up? What did you do then? Call 911 hoping that the response time would be under 10 minutes? Grab a frying pan and check it out? Or, did you do the prudent thing and grab your gun? The people in the stories below grabbed their guns and are still alive because of it. Hopefully, you’ll do what they did when the situation calls for it.

Home alone, a 17-year-old girl did not answer the door when the door bell rang. Shortly thereafter, she heard someone jump over the gate in the backyard. She then saw a man reach through the home’s doggie door and attempt to unlatch it. The girl quickly armed herself and fired a shot at the doggie door. Without hesitation, the suspect fled. It is unknown whether or not the man was injured. The area was heavily searched, but police were unable to locate the man. (The Arizona Republic, Glendale, Ariz., 2/07/12)

Instead of going to school, three teenagers went on a crime spree robbing two pedestrians. The teens then attacked a 65-year-old man riding a bicycle on a public trail. The man was carrying a concealed firearm and fought back, shooting two of the three assailants. Shot in the chest, one assailant was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was struck in the neck and taken to a local hospital. The third teen was charged with robbery, aggravated assault as well as other related offenses. (Reading Eagle, Reading, Pa., 1/27/12)

Between 2 and 3 P.M. a woman was stopped along the highway when a man approached her car door. He pulled out a knife that appeared to already have a bloody blade and demanded that she go with him. He threatened her, telling her that if she did not comply she would “end up like that woman on TV.” The woman believed he was referring to a missing teacher confirmed dead just days before. She told the man to wait while she got her cigarettes, then reached down and pulled out a gun. The man quickly fled. (Bozeman Daily Chronicle, Bozeman, Mont., 1/14/12)

Police received a call from a 15-year-old girl claiming there was someone trying to get into her house while she was home alone. She reported that she heard the front door jiggle, looked out the window and saw two men there. One man managed to get into the garage, where he was attempting to steal a pickup truck. After retrieving her father’s handgun, the girl confronted the man in the garage, causing him to immediately flee. His accomplice, who had already made his way inside and was ransacking the contents of the home, quickly followed suit. (The Daily News, Texas City, Texas, 1/15/12)

In the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin incident there are some in the media and in the government who are using the tragedy as a pretext to “review” gun laws and use of force laws. In other words they’re looking to use this single incident as a way to limit your access to guns and to give criminals the upper hand when they’re up to no good. Of course all the losers attempting to eliminate your rights conveniently forget the many, many thousands of times each year that law-abiding Americans use their own firearms to protect themselves and their families. It was not a good day on the job for one would-be-burglar. First, he tried to climb in the window of 77-year-old Donald McElrea’s home, but was caught in the act. Pistol in hand, McElrea confronted the burglar. The gun startled the burglar so badly that he lost his footing and plummeted 20 feet over the side of an elevated deck. McElrea told the burglar to stay on the ground while his wife called the police, and the burglar should’ve just cut his losses at that point. Instead he got up and charged McElrea, who opened fire. Police arrived to find the burglar injured from the fall, shot in the arm and considering a new line of work. (Harrison Daily Times, Harrison, Ark., 10/18/11)

Hardworking attorney Curt Crowley was at the office late one evening when he heard a filing cabinet open and close. Knowing he should be the only one in the office, he retrieved his .40-cal. handgun, peered out the door and discovered a burglar rifling through cabinets. ”I told him to freeze, but not in language you can repeat,” Crowley recalled. ”He ended up begging me not to kill him.” Crowley held the suspect at gunpoint until the police arrived. (The Clarion-Ledger, Jackson, Miss., 10/10/11)

“Give me your money or I’ll kill you!” When Dale Swallows heard those words uttered by the armed intruder accosting his son and his son’s girlfriend, he knew he had to take immediate action. The intruder was thusly unaware of Swallows, who had gone to bed. Swallows retrieved a handgun and approached the unfolding robbery. When he emerged, the intruder charged him. There was a struggle. Swallows pushed the intruder away and shot him. The intruder complained of trouble breathing, and Swallows told him to “lay still” until police arrived. The intruder will be charged after his release from the hospital. (The Herald Bulletin, Anderson, Ind., 10/06/11)

With her 1- and 2-year-old daughters nearby, Elizabeth Easterly was working behind the counter of her grandfather’s 24-hour food store when a man entered. He quickly began acting erratically. Easterly kept an eye on the man and checked on her daughters, but the man interrupted, demanding money and grabbing the stroller that held Easterly’s baby. He began to push the stroller out the door, but was halted by a shot from Easterly’s gun. The suspect was killed; the baby was not injured. (Naples Daily News, Naples, Fla., 10/19/11)

Gun-toting Grandma with Concealed Handgun Permit Stops Robbers

Phyllis Gigl said two alleged robbers messed with the wrong person when they conspired to steal her purse and she pulled a .380-caliber handgun out of a holster in her pants and pointed it their way.

She had a message for the suspects today: “You messed with the wrong grandmother.” Gigl, 61, said she and her husband started carrying the same type handgun about a year ago to protect themselves from incidents such as the one that occurred to her Wednesday night outside the U.S. 90 Walmart.

Gigl was loading groceries into the back of her vehicle when one of the suspects came up from behind and started trying to wrestle Gigl’s purse from her hand. In a matter of seconds, she said, she had her gun out and was poised and ready to do what she had to do to protect herself and her belongings.

“When it happened, it was scary,” she said this morning. “I didn’t know if the guy had a gun or a knife.” . . .

No matter how many times law abiding citizens use their lawfully owned and Constitutionally protected guns to defend themselves, anti-gun nuts pretend it doesn’t happen or that citizens and criminals just need to learn how to get along. The truth is that criminals are scum and will do anything they can to get an advantage on law abiding citizens like you including ganging up on you, lying in wait, or just overpowering you when you trust them to be who they say they are. Brandon Kruse was on his way to get some sushi when three teens surrounded him, and one of them punched Kruse in the head. ”One guy to my far right just punched me in the face and started swinging,” Kruse said. ”At that point, I just pulled my fun and the three guys scattered.” Kruse dialed 9-1-1 and kept the SIG Sauer .40-cal. pistol, which he is licensed to carry, ready. Strangely, the suspects lingered in a nearby parking lot and were arrested by responding officers for assault and drug possession. (New Haven Register, New Haven, Conn., 08/02/11)

After a recent burglary, an elderly man began storing his gun in a more accessible fashion. Not long thereafter he awoke at 3 a.m. and realized hi home was again being invaded. He grabbed his gun and confronted three suspects in the hallway, shooting one suspect several times. The wounded man fled with an accomplice, but a third suspect grabbed a knife and chose to fight. During the struggle, the homeowner’s gun discharged, wounding the suspect’s hand. The injured suspect decided to wait for police, but unfortunately the homeowner had no phone and was too weak to go for help. Thus began a lengthy stand-off. Unbelievably, the homeowner held the suspect for eight hours before he was able to muster enough strength to escort him next door and phone police. (Reno Gazette-Journal, Reno, Nev., 08/22/11)

Normally, Raven Smith leaves his gun in the vehicle before he goes into a restaurant, but something make him reconsider on evening. The concealed-carry permit holder kept his .380-cal. handgun holstered as he stepped out of the car to have dinner with his girlfriend. Before he’d taken three steps, a masked man rushed up behind his girlfriend with what appeared to be a gun. ”Get down, get down!” Smith yelled to his girlfriend as he fired four shots. The suspect dropped to the ground with four gunshot wounds and will be arrested after his release from the hospital. ”I’ve only had practice doing casual shooting, as a hobby,” said Smith, and airline mechanic. ”It’s completely different using it in a situation like this.” His girlfriend calls him her hero, adding, “I saw orange flashes over my head. And then my ears were ringing.” (St. Petersburg Times, St. Petersburg, Fla., 08/08/11)

Police believe a prowler was on drugs, had an illegal gun and had broken into several cars and storage sheds before 17-year-old Justin Rowland caught him burglarizing his parent’s property. Rowland, a good student and football player, spotted the suspect rummaging through the family’s shed. He quickly grabbed a pump-action shotgun and confronted the prowler, who threw his hands in the air and waited for police. ”It definitely made our job easier,” said police detective Philip Calhoun. ”It’s very easy to roll up on a scene and put somebody into custody when they’re already [being held] at gunpoint by the homeowner.” (FOX16-TV, Little Rock, Ark., 08/11/11)

Was the suspect lying in wait as his would-be victim came home from work? That’s what police are asking after Leontaye Johnson returned from his shift as a cook and was ambushed. What police do know is the suspect illegally carried a gun, announced a robbery and fired a shot at Johnson, injuring him. That’s when Johnson drew his gun, fired several shots and killed the suspect. (NBC11-TV, Atlanta, Ga., 08/15/11)

A young woman walked out the door on her way to work when she spotted a pit bull with a history of aggressive behavior on the loose. She quickly ducked back inside her father’s home and called police to report the wandering dog. After waiting for the dog to leave, the father got a firearm for safety and escorted his daughter to the vehicle. Within moments the dog appeared and again began acting aggressively. The homeowner tried to slowly back his way into the home but the dog backed him against an exterior wall. He fired a shot, killing the dog. (Everett Herald, Everett, Wash., 08/18/11)

Early one afternoon a man knocked on a woman’s door and claimed to be there to check on roof damage for an insurance company. As soon as he was inside, he punched the woman and knocked her to the ground. The woman broke free in the ensuing struggle, and the suspect followed her into a bedroom. She managed to fight off the suspect and claw her way to her pistol. As soon as she had the gun in her hands, the man fled the area. (Ashland Time-Gazette, Ashland, Ohio, 08/06/11)

It’s might be just a matter of time before you find yourself facing a criminal who would think nothing of injuring you or killing you. Maybe it’s a carjacker who would kill you for your car, or maybe it’s a meth-head burglar who tries to beat you senseless with a baseball bat to get enough money for more drugs. How will you defend yourself ? Will you use a cell phone, a whistle, or maybe some hot coffee to fend off your attacker? Wouldn’t you be better off using a gun to save your life? The people in the stories below would tell you that a gun is the way to go.

Seeking help following an assault at the hands of her boyfriend, a woman phoned her parents. They quickly picked her up and brought her to their home, calmed their terrified daughter and she went to sleep. Then a banging at the door arose – the boyfriend had found her hiding place. The parents would not answer, so the suspect kicked in the door and began assaulting them. The mother was able to struggle free and ran to the bedroom to get her pistol. Meanwhile, the suspect turned his attention to the father. The mother returned to find the suspect badly beating her husband. She opened fire, killing the suspect. A woman in her early 50s was getting out of the shower when the bathroom lights suddenly went out. An intruder collided into her in the dark, causing her to fall backward into the shower and injure her back. She fought the man, but he put a knife to her throat. “She was telling him that she has money and please don’t hurt her,” said Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter, adding that the attack was an attempted sexual assault. The intruder forced the woman into her bedroom, but that’s exactly where she kept her .22-cal. pistol. She broke free, retrieved the gun and shot her would-be rapist several times. He ran outside, collapsed and died. “Thank God she’s okay and she had a weapon to protect herself with,” said a neighbor. “She’s a nice lady, just a sweet lady.” (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta, Ga., 05/12/11)

Robert Parsley was watching television one evening when he heard a noise outside. He quickly grabbed his Smith & Wesson Model 360 revolver chambered in .357 Mag. to investigate. The doorbell rang several times. Parsley looked out the window and saw a man tugging on the locked screen door. Holding the gun behind his back, he turned on the porch light and asked the young man what he was doing. He claimed his wife was in labor, and heavily perspiring, he said that he needed help. But Parsley found the man’s story suspicious . His instincts were correct: Earlier that evening the man stole an excavator and used it to severely damage a church. Parsley lowered the gun, bringing it into view. “Sorry for waking you!” the young man said as he ran off. Two police cruisers pulled up with their spotlights on searching for a suspect. Parsley told them in what direction the suspect had run and they found him breaking into a nearby home. (WTVD-ABC, Raleigh, N.C., 05/20/11)

In 2007, shortly after pharmacist Jeremy Hoven began working the night shift at Walgreens, the store was robbed by four armed men. Despite workers’ security complaints, Walgreens made no changes, so Hoven obtained a concealed carry permit and purchased a firearm. Earlier this year, Hoven was behind the counter when two masked robbers carrying guns burst inside. According to Police Lt. Delmar Lange, the robbers were “very aggressive and very dangerous in what they did and how they did it.” The robbers ordered all employees into a back room. Hoven fired upon the robbers, likely hitting one and causing both to flee. Unfortunately, Walgreens fired the heroic armed citizen for carrying a gun. Tim Lewis was at the park throwing a Frisbee for his German shepherd when he said “all hell broke loose.” Three pit bulls, all off-leash, quickly advanced upon his dog and one of them attacked. Lewis tried to pull the pit bull off, but then the other two joined in. The owner of the pit bulls showed up and helped Lewis pull back the most aggressive pit bull, but then it turned on Lewis. That’s when Lewis, a concealed-carry permit holder, drew his pistol and fired a shot, striking the attacking dog. The wounded dog was recovering after surgery. “If I didn’t have my gun, I’d be dead right now,” Lewis said. “It’s not something I wanted to do, I love animals.” (Kirkland Patch, Kirkland, Wash., 05/21/11)

When three men claiming to be contractors told 86-year-old Walter Peppel that his roof was leaking – and that he needed to pay them $11,700 to fix it – he smelled a rat. The roof was in good condition, and the men had no uniforms, business cards or logo on their vehicle. One of the men was so bold as to climb atop Peppel’s roof without permission, claiming he needed to inspect it. Peppel told the men to leave the house. Instead, they shouted at Peppel, frightening his wife and demanding he pay them to fix the roof. That’s when Peppel got his original Winchester Model 94 lever-action and pointed it at the scammers. They fled before the Peppels could record their license plate number. (Pocono Record, Stroudsburg, Pa., 05/09/11)

Solid doors, high-quality locks, and monitored alarm systems are all good things to have and they go a long way toward keeping you and your family safe. But, what happens when a criminal kicks in the door or breaks the locks or beats your alarm system? What then? If the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is still in effect (it currently is) you could protect yourself from criminals with your gun like the people you’ll read about below.

Sitting at his kitchen table, a long-time NRA member and competitive shooter was alarmed when a masked intruder walked through the front door wielding a knife. “Who the [expletive] are you?” the NRA member demanded, but the intruder just mumbled something and progressed toward him. The NRA member grabbed for the intruder’s knife hand, receiving lacerations. He continued struggling with the intruder with his left hand, and reached into his pocket with his right, drawing a .38-cal. revolver. “Get the [expletive] out of hear or I’m going to shoot you!” the NRA member shouted. The intruder backed away, saying, “I’m an alcoholic; I’m not going to get shot over this.” He fled the scene. (Walla Walla Union-Bulletin, Walla Walla, Wash., 03/30/11)

When a noise woke an 84-year-old grandmother, she noticed her hall light was on and knew something was awry. The sharp-thinking, independent woman opened her nightstand drawer and quickly grabbed her .38-cal. revolver. “My mind told me to get that gun,” she explained. No sooner had she done so than an intruder appeared at the bedroom door. The woman fired a shot, striking the wall. The intruder ran out the back door, which he had kicked in. (KTVU-TV, Oakland, Calif., 03/03/11)

Denard Joe was stopped in his car at an intersection when a man wearing a red bandana tapped on the window and pointed a gun at him. Big mistake. Joe, a concealed-carry permit holder, drew a handgun and opened fire through the window, striking his assailant twice in the chest. The carjacker, who had just been released from state prison last November, ran a short distance and then died. (The Ledger, Lakeland, Fla., 04/06/11)

Home alone in his two-story house, a man heard a knock at his door. Glancing out the window, he saw three men sneak around to the back sliding door. The sound of breaking glass made it clear that the men were entering the house. The homeowner went upstairs, locked himself in a bedroom and got his gun. At least one of the burglars approached the bedroom door and was about to enter when the resident opened fire, killing him. The other burglars fled, one of whom was nabbed by a responding officer’s police dog. (The News Tribune, Tacoma, Wash., 04/05/11)

Church Minister Kimani Wright and his young son interrupted a burglary as they returned home one morning. Wright saw the burglar, who was armed, and immediately drew a handgun and opened fire. Glass shattered as bullets struck the front door. The burglar wisely ran away. According to police, the intruder was not struck. Neither Wright nor his son were injured. (The Fayetteville Observer, Fayetteville, N.C., 04/21/11)

“You’re not supposed to knock old people down…I’m too old to be going through all that!” aid 83-year-old James Brooks after a hair-raising burglary incident. It began when a man knocked on the door, claimed to have lost his cell phone and inquired whether Brooks had seen it. Soon after, a second man knocked on the door. “He told me to go sit on the couch because he didn’t want to kill me,” Brooks recalled. At first he thought the suspect was joking, but his intent to do harm quickly became clear. As the suspect attempted to lift Brooks’ television, Brooks saw his opportunity to retrieve a firearm. He fired a shot, wounding the suspect, who fled the scene with the assistance of two accomplices. Brooks said he’s lived in the neighborhood for more than 25 years and never had anything like this happen. “These young people have got their whole lives to live, why spoil it?” Brooks asked rhetorically. “I’m thinking [the suspect] got the message” (Dayton Daily News, Dayton, Ohio, 04/30/11)

A woman and her husband pleaded with a man to quit attempting to break into their home. As the woman dialed 9-1-1, the suspect banged on the front door and shattered the surrounding glass. The husband shouted that he was armed with a rifle – he even fired two warning shots in an attempt to halt the break-in – but the suspect forced the door open anyway. As he entered the home, the husband fired a single shot from his .22-cal. rifle. The suspect was shot once in the chest and killed. (The World, Coos Bay, Ore., 04/08/11)

No matter how many times I say it, no matter how many times I write it, it seems that people just don’t believe that anyone in the federal government is working toward violating the 2nd Amendment. Barack Obama has, during his political career, always been anti-gun and anti-Second Amendment and therefore, anti-American. Obama’s anti-gun stance has been recently reiterated during a visit to the White House by gun control maven Sarah Brady. The worst part of his anti-gun stance is that it’s very much pro-criminal as it seriously degrades your right to self-defense. The people in the stories below understand what the Second Amendment means to them.

Professional Firefighter Craig Moore was returning home when he noticed a pair of snow-covered boots that didn’t belong to him. Fearing an intruder was inside, he readied his handgun and began a room-by-room inspection. As he entered an upstairs bedroom, he came face-to-face with a man hiding under a comforter at the foot of the bed. To Moore’s further shock, he recognized the man as his neighbor. Moore yelled at him, demanded to know what he was doing in the house and asked if he’d stolen anything. The neighbor cowered and begged Moore not to shoot. As Moore phoned police, the neighbor leapt from a two-story window, ran back inside to retrieve his boots and fled. Police arrested the neighbor, who was out on bail for several other burglaries, and took him to the hospital for treatment of a broken ankle. (The Record Enterprise, Meredith, N.H., 02/17/11)

Two people had just pulled up to a bank’s drive-through automated teller machine when a man approached them on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The man drew a gun and demanded the driver withdraw $600 and give it to him. The driver told him the bank wouldn’t allow him to withdraw that amount, but the passenger told the driver to go ahead and withdraw it. Secretly, the passenger just wanted a diversion to allow him to draw his handgun. As the suspect watched the driver withdraw the money, the passenger saw his opening. “He reaches over and pushes the suspect’s gun out of the driver’s face and shoots him twice,” said Jackson, Miss., Commander Wendell Watts. The suspect returned fire and the passenger shot him an additional four or five times. The suspect survived, but lost a kidney and his freedom. (The Northside Sun, Jackson, Miss., 02/24/11)

Four young men loitering near a dumpster approached a Wing Zone takeout driver while he was making a delivery. According to witnesses, the suspects demanded money and one of them flashed an illegally possessed gun. The driver, a concealed-carry permit holder, didn’t hesitate. He drew his handgun and fired four shots while attempting to run. One of the suspects was shot and fell to the ground. He was arrested at the hospital. His accomplices fled. Two were arrested, and one remains at large. Police said there had been several pizza delivery robberies in that area during a six-month period. (WLEX-TV, Lexington, Ky., 03/12/11)

“Don’t Move!” A homeowner recalled telling a burglar after he heard a noise, grabbed his gun and found the unwanted visitor running through his home. The burglar did not comply, forcing the homeowner to fire a shot, wounding him. The burglar fell to the ground and the homeowner commenced holding him at gunpoint. To the homeowner’s astonishment, the burglar handed him a cell phone and asked him to call 9-1-1. Unfortunately, when the homeowner unlocked the door for police, the burglar made a break for it. “He was moving,” the homeowner said. “He hit the fence pretty hard. You could hear him.” The suspect is still being sought by police. (KTRK-TV, Houston, Texas, 03/26/11)

A jewelry store manager was behind the desk when two men dressed in wigs and women’s clothing burst through the door. The men, later reported to be illegal aliens from Honduras and Guatemala, carried guns and duct tape. This bizarre tale wraps up quickly: The manager drew the .357-cal. pistol that was holstered on his hip and promptly shot both men, killing one and critically injuring the other. Two weeks before, one of the men attempted to rob the same store. Resale shop owner Pam McCrory said what happened shocked her, considering her business is not far away. “I will be getting me a gun,” she said. (WLBT-TV, Pearl, Miss., 03/23/11)

Studies prove that Americans experience fewer “hot” burglaries–which occur when homeowners are present and therefore carry a greater risk of violence–because criminals in the United States fear being shot by homeowners. The notion was reaffirmed recently when a Portland, Ore., 9-1-1 dispatcher received a wacky call. The caller informed the dispatcher that he had broken into a home and decided to take a shower when, in the midst of bathing, the homeowner returned. Terrified that the homeowner might have a gun, the intruder locked himself in the bathroom and placed the emergency call. The homeowner also phoned police, who arrested the intruder. (CNN, 03/08/11)

You might argue that liberal Democrats aren’t anti-gun or that they’re not a bunch of rights-infringing anti-American creeps, but you’d be wrong. Despite the plentiful stories in The Armed Citizen Report where ordinary law-abiding Americans defend themselves with their lawfully owned guns, the Democrats have selected anti-gun Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz as head of the Democratic National Committee. Yep, the new head DemocRat wants to curtail your gun rights…the same rights people in the stories below exercised.

Pike County, Ohio prosecutor Rob Junk made it easy for a journalist investigating a burglary. In fact, the entire story was essentially one long quote from the prosecutor.”[The armed citizen] was in his home, minding his own business, when these two individuals busted in, at least one of them armed,” Junk said. “They trained a gun on him and threatened to kill him. The citizen later had marks on his body where they beat him.” The homeowner retrieved a rifle and shot at the men, killing one of them. “The bottom line is that [the criminal] would be alive if he had chosen to obey the law and not burglarize people’s houses,” said Junk. “Most of our Pike County residents have guns. I have several. If somebody broke into my house, threatened me, my wife and my 5-year-old daughter, I would shoot them dead. Most people around here feel the same way.” (Portsmouth Daily Times, Portsmouth, Ohio, 02/15/11)

Through Rocco Bombara’s legs were amputated due to a medical condition, he is far from helpless. “He’s not someone to mess with,” said his daughter, Nicco. “He’s pretty tough. He does everything on his own.” Rocco also understands that sometimes evil men perceive the physically challenged as easy prey. One such individual attempted to break into Bombara’s apartment while his son, daughter and several of their friends were watching television. The intruder crawled halfway inside the window and randomly fired two shots from a rifle. Bombara drew a handgun from his wheelchair and returned a more precise shot, killing the intruder. A couple in their sixties were awakened by loud, repeated banging on their apartment door. They went downstairs and the husband opened the door – and an intoxicated 28-year-old man pushed them aside and entered the home. The suspect shoved the husband and repeatedly claimed to live in the apartment, ignoring the couple’s insistence to the contrary. The couple tried to push the man back out the door, but he punched the man in the groin and shoved the woman. That’s when the husband informed the intruder he had a gun and would shoot him if he didn’t leave; however, the intruder remained relentless in his assault. The husband fired a shot, killing him. (Lansing State Journal, Lansing, Mich., 02/05/11)

Upon having his slumber disturbed by the sound of breaking glass, a homeowner quickly retrieved his pistol. He walked down the hall and discovered two men forcing the front door open. He shouted at them, demanding they identify themselves. The men did not reply, but continued breaking in – that is, until the homeowner shot one of them with his .45-cal. pistol. Police found the wounded burglar lying on the ground outside the home and arrested him; his accomplice had already fled. (The Times, Ottawa, Ill., 01/21/11)

It was less than a year ago that Chicago’s government was forced to repeal many of its rights-infringing laws, and a southside resident recently joined the growing list of armed citizens owing their lives to the Supreme Court’s ruling. Hearing glass breaking in her basement, a 45-year-old got her handgun and confronted two intruders already inside the home. “I was scared for my life,” she explained. “I’ve never been so scared before in my entire life.” One of the men wielded a tire iron, and the woman opened fire upon him. He fell and died. His accomplice fled. “I thank God that I’m still here,” the woman said. (The Chicago Tribune, Chicago, Ill., 02/21/11)

When 70-year-old Watson Green discovered a man attempting to break into his home late one evening, he immediately called 9-1-1 and got his handgun. Green advised the 9-1-1 operator that he was armed. The operator told him to put the gun away and wait for police but Green chose to do otherwise. In fear of his life, Green fired a single shot, killing the suspect. Two weeks prior to his death, the suspect was arrested for burglary in a separate incident. “We’ve had a lot of break-ins in Hobbs lately,” said Hobbs, N.M., Police Officer Mike Stone. “The residents of the home were probably scared.” (KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, N.M., 02/23/11)

After hearing a commotion, NRA Life member Joe McNeil discovered an alleged burglar trying to remove his window air-conditioning unit. When the suspect failed, he ran to the back of the home, broke the bedroom window and began to climb inside. Meanwhile, McNeil retrieved a 12-ga. shotgun and waited strategically in the hallway until the suspect came into view. “Get on the ground or I’ll shoot you!” McNeil commanded. Instead, the suspect grabbed for the shotgun. McNeil fought him off an again ordered him to the ground. He refused, forcing McNeil to fire two shotgun slugs. The suspect was taken to the hospital with severe injuries and will face burglary and assault charges after his release. (The Albuquerque Journal, Albuquerque, N.M., 01/25/11)

Jeff Gibson and his wife, Tammy, had returned home after an evening church service when Jeff noticed something awry. “The garage door was open,” he recalled. “When I went to see what was going on, I saw a black car pulling out.” The car sped down the driveway toward Tammy, who was checking mail. “Jeff’s first thought was, ‘I have to neutralize this situation and protect my wife, because he’s headed straight for her,’” Tammy explained. A concealed-carry permit holder, Jeff drew his handgun and fired eight shots at the vehicle, causing it to crash. Jeff held the suspects for police. “You never really think you’ll have to use [your firearm],” Jeff said. “I didn’t want to use it, but at least I was prepared for it when the time came.” (WKRN-5, Nashville, Tenn., 01/26/11)

Retired banker Hall Palmer heard a noise and got up to investigate. As soon as he opened the door, the 70-year-old was face-to-face with a man dressed in all black and armed with a pistol. The suspect ordered Palmer to sit on the bed. He wanted the PIN for a bank card he’d found downstairs. Palmer said the card was expired, but he could give him some money. The suspect bound Palmer’s hands with twine, led him downstairs and found his billfold. The suspect then bound Palmer’s feet, gagged his mouth and went outside. But he’d underestimated his victim. Palmer wriggled free and retrieved his late father’s .38-cal. Colt Army Special revolver. When the suspect returned, Palmer fired a shot, causing him to flee. The suspect had been carrying a pillow; Palmer wonders if it was intended to muffle the sound of his execution. (St. Petersburg Times, St. Petersburg, Fla., 01/20/11)

With a large stick in hand, a teenager threatened a man and his wife outside their home. They were familiar with the troubled youth, a regular offended wanted at the time on a juvenile detention order. The man drew a handgun for which he has a permit to carry, but the unfazed youth charged. The man and his wife retreated inside, called 9-1-1 and locked themselves in the bedroom. Police said the youth made several attempts to enter the home, then an eruption of breaking glass rang out as the crazed teen dove through a closed window. The man fired a shot, wounding the intruder and ending the attack. (Daily News Leader, Staunton, Va., 01/04/11)

Emergency Dispatchers said they could hear a couple screaming at an alleged burglar that he should quit breaking into their suburban Maryland home and leave. They didn’t want their 27-year-old son, who stood in the doorway with a shotgun, to have to kill the man. Instead the suspect broke a windowpane and reached through to unlock the door. The son opened fire, killing the suspect. When a reporter asked the woman’s permission to speak to her son, who appeared to be the “hero” in the incident, she said, “There was no hero. The only thing I can tell you is that we are thankful we are alive.” (The Washington Post, Washington, D.C., 01/13/11)

Housing manager Dihanna McCullock said she is a fighter, and police said she proved it one morning when a man broke a window, entered her office and tried to stab her with a butcher knife. A second assailant, who carried a gun and wore some sort of badge on his shirt, also entered the office and fired a shot, grazing McCullock’s right arm. That’s when she drew the Taurus Judge revolver she carries daily and unloaded on the second suspect with a .410 shotshell. The robbers fled, dropping McCullock’s wallet and the knife in their haste. “Wherever he’s at he’s wounded, somewhere,” McCullock predicted. “My husband taught me well.” (WALB-10, Albany, Ga., 01/06/11)

If not, keep reading. The stories this month, as in months past, speak to the insanity of the anti-gun left. People do use their guns to defend themselves everyday. Isn’t that a good thing?

Just after midnight, a married couple awoke to discover that three men were banging on their front door and repeatedly ringing the doorbell. Both husband and wife are avid target shooters, and each retrieved a handgun before quietly creeping toward the front of the house to investigate. For a moment it appeared the men would leave, but instead they drove their car down the driveway closer to the home. At that point the husband dialed 9-1-1. Two men resumed beating on the front door, while a third moved to the back door and beat on it with increased urgency. The husband aimed his .32-cal. pistol at the back door, and his wife did the same with her .38-cal. revolver. When the suspect forced the door open, the husband opened fire. The shots caused all three suspects to flee the scene. (The Item, Sumter, S.C., 12/22/10)

Jackson, Miss., Police spokeswoman Colendula Green said she’s seen an increase in the number of armed citizens protecting their homes and businesses. “They’re going to protect themselves. That’s why the Castle [Doctrine] Law is in effect,” Green said, noting several incidents in recent months during which Jackson homeowners have shot would-be burglars. In the latest such incident, four suspects allegedly kicked down the door to a home and ordered the family inside to lie on the floor. The homeowner quickly retrieved his gun and opened fire, shooting three of the suspects. The wounded suspects were arrested at the hospital. The fourth is still being sought. A father realized his worst fear when an unknown male intruder broke into his home and entered his 15-year-old daughter’s bedroom. Alerted by the family dog’s barking, the father went to check on his daughter and discovered that someone was holding her door shut. Fortunately, the daughter remained asleep, oblivious to the traumatic event. The father ran to another part of the home and got his handgun. Returning to his daughter’s room, he forced the door open, ordered the intoxicated suspect to the ground and held him at gunpoint for police. (Decatur Herald, Decatur, Ill., 12/01/10)

Knocking at a home at 1:30 a.m., a pair of alleged burglars did not receive a prompt answer. The left with plans to return in 90 minutes. Unbeknownst to them, the homeowner answered the door after being roused from bed, but found they were gone. The suspects returned, and one of them attempted to force open a sliding glass door while the other pried at a window. The homeowner heard the suspects and got a pistol to investigate. Upon discovering the suspect at his door, he fired one shot. Both suspects fled. The wounded suspect died nearby, and his accomplice was arrested. While returning to their car after visiting a cemetery, an 82-year-old man and his 76-year-old wife were accosted by a man wearing a mask. The suspect drew an illegally possessed gun and ordered the couple to the ground. But his elderly targets were no easy victims. The husband, who has a concealed-carry permit, drew a .22-cal. revolver from his pocket. The suspect took cover behind a pine tree, and both men opened fire. The husband’s shots forced the suspect to retreat from the area. Police arrested the suspect and an alleged accomplice, aided by a witness who described the getaway car as white with an “abnormally loud muffler.” (Chronicle Independent, Camden, S.C., 12/17/10)

Hassan Malih was working at the internet cafe he owns when a bizarre crime unfolded – an alleged robber burst inside, pulled out a water bottle filled with gasoline, threw gas on Malih and waved a lighter while demanding money. “He obviously gave the clerk the impression he was going to be set on fire,” said Seminole County Fla., Police Lt. James Clark. Malih drew a handgun and fired several shots at the suspect, causing him to run out of the store. (MSNBC, 12/17/10)

Police said six men with ties to California’s Sureno gang drove into a rural area intent on committing burglaries. Maybe they thought there wouldn’t be as strong a police presence outside the city, but they forgot an important detail: Many rural homes contain firearms and folks who know how to use them. The gang members burst inside a home and were immediately greeted by gunfire. One suspect was killed, a second one was shot several times and the remaining four fled back to the city.
